SMD 5050 LEDs are among the first diodes that express adequate power for general lighting needs. The LED strips that mount them, however, sometimes have the drawback of having a low number of diodes per meter (generally 30 or 60 per metre), and this inevitably leads to the unsightly “dotted” or “dots” effect due to the excessive separation between diode and diode. The available powers generally range from 9.6W/m to 28W/m. On Dogmatic, we offer high-quality RGB 5050 LED Strips and RGB+W 5060 LED Strips with 120 LEDs per meter, ensuring perfect luminous homogeneity without the “speckled” effect.

5630 AND 5730 SMD LEDS

The 5630 and 5730 SMD diodes have recent development and excellent brightness in common. These are LEDs suitable for use where high lumens are required. On DOMAGIC the strip with 5730 diodes of 26.8W/m (120 LED/m) capable of expressing 2,660 lumens per meter has been available for a long time, today surpassed by the significantly superior performance of the 2835 LED strip of 21.6W/m with a density of even greater LEDs (168 LEDs/m) and an efficiency level higher than 146lm/W (with flux at 4000K Ra>80 equal to 3150 lumens per meter).

2110 SMD LED

The SMD Screen 2110 LEDs are among the most recent. In addition to excellent brightness, they have the particularity of being mounted very close together, almost eliminating the space between diode and diode. The result of these strips is a beautiful continuous light effect, even if mounted on aluminium profiles with a transparent or extra-transparent refractor. This SMD LED model allows you to exceed 700 diodes per meter!

WHEN TO CHOOSE A CERTAIN SMD LED MODEL: APPLICATION TIPS

As seen, each SMD chip model has its characteristics and peculiarities that require and justify its use in specific applications, and this is based on two fundamental factors, which are:

Performance: understood as luminous efficiency, power, helpful lifespan, type of pitch (i.e. every how many millimetres the strip can be cut), the width of the LED strip;

Lighting effect: this can vary depending on the density of LEDs per meter, the supply voltage of the strip, the quality of the diode in terms of colour rendering, and the quality of the colour temperature.

Starting from the performances, I will first have to ask myself the following question: do I need a decorative LED source or general and functional lighting?

In the first case, if the need is to have an LED strip with a decorative function, the choice may fall on SMD 3528 LEDs, which, as mentioned, are characterized by the possibility of having limited powers (starting from 4.8W/m ). However, the application requires good homogeneity of light. In that case, it will be necessary to choose intermediate abilities such as 9.6W/m to have at least 120 diodes per meter (4.8W/m are generally distributed on strips of 60 diodes per metre), possibly by combining with a dimmer to adjust the intensity of the flow emitted if it is excessive.

The aspect to consider is that the characteristic energy efficiency of the SMD 3528 LED is not the highest; however, it has a relatively low purchase cost. Also, for this aspect, it is worth comparing with the characteristic elements of the concrete application. If the strip is intended to remain on for a short time on average per day, it will be worth purchasing the 3528 model since the energy efficiency aspect comes into play on the second floor compared to the lower purchase cost. However, if the application requires medium-intensive use, referring to the SMD Screen 2835 LED model is best.

As for the 2835 model, it is an SMD chip that, from a cost-quality perspective, is one of the best. The LED strip mount can be used for decorative and lighting purposes. This is because it is a chip that has enjoyed great favour on the market and is therefore available at low powers (typically 4.3W/m, 4.8W/m, 6W/m, 7.2W/m, 8.6W/m, 9.6W /m and 10.1W/m) as well as abilities suitable for illuminating entire rooms (14.4W/m, 17.3W/m, 20.2W/m, 25W/m, 30W/m and 40W/m). Furthermore, starting from 9.6W/m, the strips have 120 LEDs per meter, moving up to 168 LEDs per meter for the 17.3W and 21.6W and 196 LEDs per meter for the 20.2W (in this case, arranged in two parallel rows ). DOMAGIC offers LED strips with high-quality SMD 2835 diodes, capable of producing high-lumen light beams and excellent colour rendering (from CRI>85 up to CRI>95). This choice makes the most of applications that require a high quality, homogeneous and robust general lighting solution (and therefore with powers starting from 14.4W/m).
