Planning visit to Fire Valley and Red Rock Canyon: Las Vegas

Generally after watching pictures of Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire, people misunderstood they are the same place with two names. But they both are situated at one hour distance.

Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire are two beautiful exploring views located in the outer of Las Vegas, Nevada. We will here clear the confusion between these two red sandstone parks.

Distance from Las Vegas

Red Rock Canyon is a scenic area on the west side of Las Vegas located about a 25-minute drive from downtown Las Vegas. Fire Valley Las Vegas is a wilderness area in the northeast part of the city and is around an hour’s drive or 60 minutes from the heart of Las Vegas downtown.

Exploring Red Rock Canyon

This smaller but extremely beautiful red sandstone state park consists of a one-way 13-mile scenic loop. 

  • While driving through the main road, you can enjoy various spectating views, various wildlife & geological wonders hiking, etc.
  • You will not get water out there, so do carry it with you mainly during hot days. 
  • During your tour to Las Vegas, Red Rock Canyon would be your perfect visit to get some adventure along with fun activities. 
  • Hiking on the red rock is much longer and very difficult and most of the visitors prefer to just play on the rocks, enjoy the view and capture some clicks.
  • Other most beautiful stops in Red Rock Canyon are White Rock, Calico I, and Red Spring Calico Basin.
  • Top hikes- Children’s Discovery Trail, Keystone Thrust Trail, Ice Box Canyon Trail.

Explore this state park as much as you can, have some social mediable clicks, fun activities like hiking, rock climbing, etc, explore red sandstones, and have fun there.

Let’s now explore Valley of Fire

The oldest park in Nevada- valley of fire las vegas is such an eye-soothing place with vibrant colours that make the visit worth it. 

  • There is another reason that makes the park more attractive- the bighorn sheep that live there.
  • The formation of red rocks is more in this place: petroglyphs, arches, and a slot canyon on the white domes trail.
  • Hiking trails: The Fire Wave, Mouse’s Tank, The White Domes Trail, and the Seven Sisters, etc.
  • You will get to see on the way: the Beehive, the Elephant Rock, and Atlatl Rock.
  • Although the Valley of Fire to Las Vegas is 18 miles and without any stoppage could take 45 minutes, has various small hikes that can also be enjoyed with kids.
  • Valley of Fire visitor centre assists the visitors there.

The crowd is generally less in the Fire Valley as it is far from Las Vegas than Red Rock Canyon state park. But Valley of Fire is full of fun activities, shorter hiking, vibrant views, etc.

Bottom line

Although the Valley of Fire and red rock canyon consist of red sandstones, both are way different in the experience they offer to their visitors. And also don’t miss the sunset view in both parks as the view becomes soul-relaxing that time.
