We will learn how to draw an awesome letter, X, to do this. In 6 steps, we will show you how to recreate this awesome drawing we have planned.
Also, we have some tips on coloring and decorating your artwork to make it as beautiful as possible. This guide has a lot to talk about, but it will be a lot of fun!
How to Draw A Fancy Letter X
Step 1
Written as a normal letter, X is fairly easy to write. IIt’s just two straight lines crossing each other, making learning easier.
This version of the letter we’re drawing is essentially just that but with a few whimsical flourishes. To prepare this drawing, you can draw a regular letter X.
This is best done with a pencil, and this X-Plan can be drawn using straight lines as a guide, although the patterned version will be very rounded.
When you’re ready to start the actual design, let’s start with the upper left arm of the letter. Instead of a straight line, it will be a wavy spiral shape.
When drawing this spiral shape, you can draw it as one long, winding line or split it into two lines that connect at the midpoint.
As you can see in the reference image, this spiral looks almost like an octopus tentacle curling up. Once we’ve drawn this spiral shape, we can move on to step 2 of the tutorial!
Step 2
We added one of the arms of the letter X in the previous step; now, let’s add two more. However, the arm from the previous step is unique.
It’s the only one wrapped in such a spiral, but the other arms also differ from a regular X. We’ll start with the one in the upper-right corner of the letter.
It starts where the previous line ended and slopes slightly upwards. There is a sharp point at the tip of this arm.
The lower left arm of the X will have a very similar shape, but of course, at a different angle than the previous one.
The tips of each arm also point in opposite directions. Now you will see a space on the right side of the letter X.
This won’t be the case for long, though, as we’ll be done with that when we reach step 3 of the guide and complete the letter outline.
Step 3
Now you can finish the outline of your fancy letter X. To do this, add another arm to the shape.
This last leg is opposite the spiral from step one and has a similar shape to the previous two we drew in step 2.
You’ll see that this last leg of the letter is slightly larger than the previous two, despite having the same shape.
As with these, it is drawn with two slightly wavy lines that converge to a pointed point. And with that, you have the complete outline of your letter X!
The next two steps focus on the details in and around the letter, allowing you to erase the pencil lines recommended in step one.
Now would also be a good time to refine the contour lines and ensure you’re happy with how it looks so far.
With that done, let’s move on to step 4 and start with some of those internal details to make this letter even fancier than it already is!
Step 4
Details can make all the difference in any design, even if they are quite insignificant. This becomes clear when we add some simple but powerful details to the letter in this step.
We wanted to give the letter a simple, textured look and achieved that with some simple wavy lines all over the letter.
These are easy to add and make the letter even more interesting. Of course, there are many other ways to decorate this design!
The letter could be filled with smaller shapes or different line types. You can even glue items like colored paper, beads, or glitter onto the letters.
There is no right or wrong way to decorate the interior, you can leave it blank for now and fill it with color later.
We’re not done with the details yet, as we have many more to add in the next step. When you’re done experimenting in this step, we can move on to step 5.
Step 5
Now we will add some cool details to the exterior of this letter X. First we will add some spiral lines starting from the two right points.
Next, we added a double spiral to the lower left shank of the letter. We also drew some small teardrop shapes for extra detail.
We placed them around the upper left spiral and the toe of the lower left leg. Finally, we added some points along the outline.
These details are all suggestions you can take and add to in your way, and maybe even add some of your ideas!
If there are details you don’t care about, you can omit them. You don’t have to limit yourself to just the letter when adding more detail.
You have plenty of background space to add all sorts of details! This can include other patterns, shapes, or anything else you can think of.
After the next step, we will give you a few more ideas for filling the background. So remember to keep reading after the last step.
Step 6
Now it’s time for the final step, where we’ll add some color to your awesome letter X! In our sample image, we chose a cool blue color.
Blue always helps to bring a calming effect to an image and bring a pleasant mood to the image. It can also be great to have warmer colors like red or orange!
There isn’t a bad choice when it comes to colors. If you have a favorite color or two, they will look great with this picture.
You can even add a ton of color if you want! Choosing colors is one thing, but there are also decisions to be made regarding the arts and crafts tools you use.
Also, you can think about how you want to color the background. It could be filled with solid color, or you can color any detail you drew there.
